Community Outreach Success Story: Kintampo in the Bono East

In partnership with, Oral Health Training and Service Center of College of health-Kintampo and local health facilities and community leaders, OHPAG members recently organized a highly successful community outreach programme in the Kintampo to mark the 2019 World Oral Health Day Celebrations. The initiative provided free dental screenings and oral health education to over 500 community members over a three-day period.

Programme Activities

Free Dental Screenings

Our team of volunteer oral health professionals conducted comprehensive oral examinations, identifying dental issues and providing treatment recommendations at Apesika community. Priority cases received immediate care whilst others were referred to nearby dental facilities for follow-up treatment.

Oral Health Education

Interactive educational sessions were conducted in over 10 schools and community centres, covering topics such as:

Thanks to our sponsors, we distributed toothbrushes, toothpaste, and educational materials to all participants, particularly school children, to encourage good oral hygiene practices at home.

Community Feedback

The response from the community was overwhelming positive. Many participants expressed gratitude for the services and indicated increased awareness about oral health importance. Community leaders requested that such programmes be conducted regularly.

Volunteer Experience

Participating OHPAG members and oral health students found the experience highly rewarding. As one volunteer noted, "It's fulfilling to bring oral health care to communities with limited access to dental services. This is what our profession is truly about - serving the people."

Looking Forward

Building on this success, OHPAG plans to expand community outreach programmes to other underserved regions across Ghana. We encourage all members to participate in these meaningful initiatives.
