The Oral Health Professionals Association of Ghana, has released updated clinical guidelines for oral health practitioners. These guidelines reflect current best practices and evidence-based approaches to oral health care.
Key Updates in the Guidelines
1. Infection Prevention and Control
Enhanced protocols for sterilization, personal protective equipment (PPE), and management of potentially infectious patients. These updates are particularly important in the post-COVID-19 era.
2. Preventive Oral Health Procedures
The guideline contains set-up for the various preventive oral health procedures ranging from topical fluoride application to application of pit and fissure sealants
3. Restorative Procedures
The elaborate guideline contains evidence-based set-up and procedures for the various restorative procedures to guide members accordingly
4. Prosthodontic Procedures
Prosthodontic procedures and their various set-ups are equally captured in the guideline to shape practice
5. Others
The guideline contains other elaborate procedures including orthodontic, cosmetic and oral surgery among others
6. Post Operative Instructions
The document contains the various post operative instructions for clients, with an elaborate one extraction as that appears to be one of the most common oral health procedures
Implementation and Training
An extensive webinar has been organized to disseminate the guideline to members. Further training will be organized in the various regions to ensure adherence to the highest standard of professionalism among members
